Should Men Keep House?

/ October 7, 1938

The Long Weekend is here.

J. will be back this evening. She slept in. Even though she didn’t end up doing that much at work (she gets a spark just thinking the word) yesterday, the bus ride there and back and all the newness of it made her tired. She was in bed before ten and slept in until 8:45! The cat finally woke up with pouncing on the bed.

She had planned to bake a cake. And make a special dinner. It’s the first time J.’s been away for four days in a row since his uncle in Winnipeg passed away. He went to the funeral by himself. Took the train. She stayed with her aunt then.

But she is too tired to go grocery shopping. She will go tomorrow and focus on Thanksgiving dinner. They will have her aunt and the new neighbours over.

She knows that her first thought is to be exceedingly grateful for this job. She hopes to get use to the routine. And, it’s only 3 days a week.
